The new Lucero record is finished. HURRAH. This is possibly the thing I’m looking forward to most in 2009. There’s no info on it yet, but I did find an awesome live set from DC earlier this year. And dude, they cover ‘Aint No Sunshine. I’ve heard from people there that it was the drunkest anyone has ever seen Ben. I was reading a Suburban Home post a while back and the writer exhibited some concern Will Whitmore was going to get “Nicholed” before he had a chance to play. Good Going.
Here’s a video from the same dude who recorded the set (he posts loads of awesome stuff from around MD)
and here’s the link for the live set.
I don’t know how many of you are aware of the awesomeness that is ifyoumakeit. If you’re not you should be. It’s the bestest punk rock video site on the whole wide interwebs and that’s for all the right reasons.
I post the stuff here a fair amount, I’m addicted to the pink couch sessions and pretty much everything else about it. You can also pick up a bunch of free/donation based records from some fucking incredible bands. In short. This site rules.
David, the dude who runs it all is having some financial difficulties and doesn’t think he’s going to be able to continue running it the way he has been for a while. This is BAD news people. but YOU can help, sling him a couple bucks via the donate button on the homepage and help keep something awesome alive.
Yeah! Up The Punks!
Oh, and now you should watch Good Luck, Stars Were Exploding, and feel pretty damn good about yourself.
Also, I haven’t posted here for a while, I’ve been drowning in my tumblr, but don’t worry I’m planning on actually writing something soon. I know, exciting right?
I wish all tv promos were like this, but then I wish all tv shows were like True Blood. Even Jason Stackhouse looks fuckable in this trailer. And don’t get me started on Bill, and is it me or is Sam a little more attractive since his lycan like changes? It’s all too much. Thank you HBO for saving us from the TV wasteland that is the summer season. Roll on June 14th.
oh yeah, and don’t forget this season Evan Rachel Wood joins the cast as Sophie Anne the vampire queen of Louisiana. There aren’t even words. Hottest show on TV I tells ya.
Oh, and the soundtrack is out on May 19th, tracklisting can be found here. It’s a heady mix of alt.country, americana and southern sleaze. Perfect for getting laid.
Wow, this week the internet just keeps producing awesome. Punknews pointed me in the direction of this video of Gaslight covering Left of the Dial. Gaslight covering the Replacements makes me happier than potential employment.
This cover is almost better than the J Page cover on “We’ll Inherit the Earth” (which is effin great by the way, you should pick it up if you don’t have it.All our favourite bands and Christy Roads artwork) and the J Page cover somehow manages to work Pictures of You and Kiss the Bottle into the end. So yeah, it’s pretty good. Watch and sigh.
I just found this on ifyoumakeit’s vimeo page. It’s Ginger Alford & Paul Baribeau doing Atlantic City during their Darkness On the Edge of Town tour (which was entirely composed of Springsteen covers….. I know!). I’ve got the audio from the last time they went out and did this, and it rules, but this rules harder. Watch and learn.
I just woke up WAY too early for last night, and I found this on strike gently and had to post it here just to check it was real. It’s Cursive performing the new single – From The Hips (which RULES by the way) on Letterman.
Things that make me suspicious about this a) look how sober Tim Kasher looks – hmmmmm, until he lets out the gutteral scream at the end I thought it may have been an imposter. b) look how respectable they all look – when have you seen those dudes in anything but tee shirts ? and this one doesn’t make me suspicious but is worth watching to the end for Letterman asking – where are you guys from, someone answering Omaha, Nebraska and him responding, I’ll be damned – as if he cannot comprehend that bands could come from there. Sorry Saddle Creek, dave says thumbs down. haha.
Last night’s full moon made me crazy, so I stayed home with Su, drank a bunch of wine and listened to a lot of alt.county (until it started making her sad). I’ve had a really Cory Branan heavy day today which is never a bad thing.
I was cruising videos over at vimeo and I found this one of Lucero doing Nobody’s Darlings at the Ottobar in Baltimore and it resonated with me for a number of reasons. 1) I’m pretty sure Robyn was at this show, I miss Robyn greatly. 2) I’ve had the funnest nights at the Ottobar and 3) this may be the saddest rendition of the song I’ve ever heard. (Also it’s awesome quality, I fricken love vimeo) so yeah. Lucero. Awwwww.
I suck at blogging recently. My head has been all over the place, and that is in no way conducive to speaking in fully formed sentences, let alone writing them down. So, I’m actually going to make an effort to start writing here properly again as of tomorrow, but until then, here’s the new Gaslight Anthem video.
Who else feels funny about a clean shaven Brian Fallon? (I sort of hate clean shaven boys anyways, but really, he looks like a totally different, slightly creepier, dude)
okay, I’m off to stay up unreasonably late watching TV and feeling like a teen.
I’m going to write a proper blog within the next couple of days, promise. Once my last day at the most depressing office in London is over I’ll surely feel inclined to write again. Today though, I just found this and it actually made things slightly better.
Hold up – – is that Brett from Riot Before covering My Best Girl all acoustic like? Wowzers.
Awesome. also, Dear Lucero, what the fuck – it’s been almost a year. Come back already. I especially mean you Nichols.
